M.H. Eby, Inc., a family-owned manufacturer of standard and custom designed aluminum trailers and truck bodies for agriculture, equine and commercial transportation, is marking 75 years of innovation this year. Run by a third-generation family, the company has grown by 35 percent in the past five years, adding approximately 60 new jobs nationwide. Eby designs and manufactures highly durable, cost-efficient and environmentally-friendly aluminum equipment. Eby continues to expand and provide jobs across the country at manufacturing, service facilities and dealerships in Story City, Iowa; Blue Ball, Pennsylvania; West Jefferson, Ohio; Logansport, Indiana; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Since 1938, Eby has been at the forefront of research and development within the agriculture and equine trailer industry. The corrosion-resistant aluminum used in all Eby products is almost 100 percent recyclable, requires less fuel to haul due to its light weight and offers greater longevity than steel or other materials on the market.
“I often wonder what my grandfather would think about his little wood shop with three employees in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (in 1938), growing into a company with factories and service shops in five states,” said M.H. Eby President Travis Eby, whose father took over the business in the early 1970s. Travis went on to say that throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, his father set the table for the recent growth the company is experiencing today. “You have to earn a good reputation,” he said. “My dad and his team did that for us.”
Eby also wants everyone to know that it’s not just the Eby family that makes Eby go. “Our employees and our management team are outstanding. I know I speak for my dad, brother and myself when I say I love working with these folks with these folks every day.”
He also said the group in Story City is special to the company. “All of the leadership team in Story City has been with us since we opened the doors there in 2005,” Eby stated. “Adam Anderson, Chris Engelhardt, Matt Grimsley and others have been there for every trailer that has rolled out the back door. That’s (pretty) special, and they are an important part of the 75 years that we are celebrating.”
